Thiruvananthapuram, 30 March (H.S.):Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has responded to the Opposition’s challenge for a public debate on development, triggering fresh political momentum in the state ahead of the Assembly elections.

In a strongly worded social media post, the Chief Minister accepted the challenge posed by Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan, while simultaneously highlighting the achievements of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government over the past decade. The post, titled “Shall we now move to the debate?”, was accompanied by what the Chief Minister described as the government’s “report card.”

Vijayan outlined a wide range of development initiatives and welfare measures implemented during his tenure. These included the commissioning of the Vizhinjam International Seaport, expansion of national highways, large-scale land title distribution, and the state’s claim of achieving a “load-shedding-free” power scenario. He also emphasized uninterrupted welfare pension schemes, enhanced focus on women’s safety, and sustained social security initiatives as key milestones of his administration.

The Chief Minister’s response comes a day after Satheesan publicly invited him to engage in a direct debate on the state’s development record. Vijayan’s post is widely seen as a counter to that challenge, presenting the government’s achievements as evidence of its performance.

However, the Opposition has maintained that a mere social media exchange is insufficient. The office of the Leader of the Opposition stated that a formal debate should be scheduled with a fixed date and time, assuring that Satheesan would be ready to participate whenever such arrangements are made.

The development has generated considerable public interest, with political observers closely watching whether the war of words will translate into a face-to-face debate between the Chief Minister and the Opposition leader—an event that could significantly shape the narrative in Kerala’s evolving political landscape.
