Howrah, 29 March (H.S.): A woman died following a domestic dispute in the workers’ quarters of Bally Jute Mill in Howrah district, with her husband accused of pushing her during an argument. The accused later surrendered at the police station along with his three minor children.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Shakila Khatun, while the accused, Mohammad Javed (37), worked at Bally Jute Mill. The couple lived with their three sons in Quarter No. 202 of the labour colony. Locals said the couple frequently argued over various issues, with disputes often escalating into physical altercations.

On Saturday night around 11 pm, Javed returned home from work, following which an argument broke out between the couple. During the altercation, he allegedly pushed his wife in a fit of rage. She fell against a wall, sustaining a severe head injury. Witnesses said she began bleeding profusely and soon collapsed on the bed. She is believed to have died on the spot due to excessive blood loss.

At the time of the incident, the couple’s three sons were outside. Hearing the commotion, they rushed inside but found their mother unresponsive. Realising the gravity of the situation, Javed took his children and went straight to the police station, where he narrated the incident and surrendered.

The police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. The accused has been arrested and an investigation is underway.
