Jalpaiguri, 25 March (H.S.): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday launched her campaign for the upcoming Assembly elections from North Bengal, addressing a public rally at Maynaguri in support of Trinamool Congress candidate Rammohan Roy.

Beginning her speech on the occasion of Annapurna Puja, Banerjee said her party delivers on promises rather than merely making them. She urged people to vote for the Trinamool Congress to ensure tea gardens remain operational and welfare schemes continue.

The Chief Minister launched a sharp attack on the BJP and the Centre, alleging rising fuel prices and inflation were beyond her control due to curtailment of state powers. She also raised concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, claiming names of Rajbanshi community members and women were being deleted.

Banerjee cautioned central forces to act impartially during the elections and alleged misuse of institutions, referring to a controversy over the use of a BJP symbol on an Election Commission document.

She further criticised the Centre over issues like NRC and detention camps, asserting that she would not allow such measures in the state. The Chief Minister also assured potato farmers of compensation under crop insurance schemes amid crop losses due to rain in North Bengal.

Taking a swipe at the BJP leadership, she called upon voters to remove them from power.
