Hyderabad, March 25 (H.S.): Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar on Wednesday urged citizens not to believe rumours about fuel shortages and assured that sufficient petrol and diesel stocks are available in the city.

Speaking after a high-level review meeting held at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGCCC) along with District Collector D. Harichandana and Civil Supplies officials, Sajjanar said the city has fuel reserves sufficient for nearly 60 days.

He said the administration is in constant coordination with oil companies and that fuel supply is continuing without disruption across Hyderabad.

Sajjanar said panic buying triggered by rumours led to a sudden surge in demand, resulting in temporary “no stock” boards at some petrol pumps. He said fuel sales increased from 3,024 kilolitres on March 22 to about 6,400 kilolitres the following day.

He warned that strict action would be taken against those selling petrol or diesel illegally in bottles or cans and against individuals spreading misinformation on social media to create panic.

Officials said monitoring is being carried out at around 240 petrol pumps under the Commissionerate in coordination with Civil Supplies and Revenue departments.

District Collector Harichandana said regular reviews are being conducted with oil companies and a special control room has been established for public assistance. She added that fuel supply is functioning normally across fuel stations and necessary steps have been taken to ensure essential services remain unaffected.
