Hooghly, 25 March (H.S.): The body of an unidentified youth was recovered from a blue drum in Bhadreswar on Wednesday, the police said.

According to officials, locals spotted the drum lying in a suspicious condition near bushes along Delhi Road in the Shwetpur area and alerted the police. The drum was found wrapped in a sack near the roadside, not far from a police outpost.

The police rushed to the spot and, upon opening the drum, recovered the body of a young man. The victim’s throat had been slit and the body also bore burn injuries, raising suspicions of a brutal murder.

Senior officers from the Chandannagar Police Commissionerate and Bhadreswar police station visited the scene. The body was later sent to Chinsurah Imambara District Hospital for post-mortem examination. The identity of the deceased is yet to be established.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the youth may have been murdered elsewhere and the body was dumped at the spot inside the drum. The police are working to identify the victim and track down those responsible.

The incident has drawn parallels with a sensational Meerut case last year, where a youth was killed and his body disposed of in a similar manner inside a blue drum. Investigators are also examining whether any personal or extramarital angle could be linked to the crime.
