
Guwahati, 25 March (HS): The Election Commission of India has imposed a ban on the conduct and dissemination of exit polls for the ongoing General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Assam, 2026.
As per the notification issued under Section 126A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the prohibited period will be from 7:00 A.M. on April 9, 2026, to 6:30 P.M. on April 29, 2026. During this period, conducting, publishing, or publicizing exit polls through print, electronic media, or any other means will not be permitted.
The Commission has also clarified that under Section 126(1)(b) of the Act, the display of election-related content, including opinion poll results or survey findings, will be prohibited on electronic media during the 48 hours leading up to the conclusion of polling in each phase.
Chief Electoral Officer of Assam, Anurag Goel, has urged all media houses, agencies and stakeholders to strictly comply with these provisions to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in the state.-------------
