Guwahati, 25 March (HS): The nomination of Congress candidate Mahananda Sarkar from Barpeta has been rejected following scrutiny by the election authorities.

The rejection was made after discrepancies were found in Form-A submitted by the candidate. According to officials, the issue pertained to the submission of a xerox copy bearing a scanned signature instead of an original document.

The matter came to light after the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) Barpeta district committee raised objections regarding the validity of the document. Following a hearing on the complaint, the District Election Officer announced the cancellation of Sarkar’s nomination.---------
