Chirang/Nalbari (Assam), 22 March (HS): Tension gripped Congress offices in Assam after alleged desecration of a portrait of popular singer Zubeen Garg and incidents of vandalism linked to internal party disputes over ticket distribution and leadership appointments.
At Thuribari–Subaijhar Block Congress Committee office in Bijni under Chirang district, visuals emerged showing miscreants kicking a portrait of Zubeen Garg. The incident reportedly occurred amid anger among a section of party workers over denial of party ticket in the 20 No. Bijni assembly constituency, triggering protests and sloganeering within the premises.
Meanwhile, in Nalbari district, internal conflict within the Congress unit escalated, leading to chaotic scenes at Rajiv Bhawan. Agitated workers raised slogans against leaders, including “Diganta Barman Murdabad” and “Ashok Sharma Murdabad,” expressing strong resentment over organizational decisions.
The unrest further intensified as protesting workers allegedly damaged furniture, broke chairs and locked the main entrance gate of the party office. The agitation was primarily linked to dissatisfaction over the appointment of the in-charge district president, reflecting deepening factionalism within the party ahead of the assembly election.---------------
