Thiruvananthapuram, 22 March (H.S.):AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal on Sunday claimed that a strong anti-incumbency sentiment is sweeping across Kerala ahead of the Assembly elections, with voters increasingly inclined towards the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF). He said the public mood indicates a clear desire for political change after years of Left Democratic Front (LDF) governance.
Speaking to reporters, Venugopal alleged that the ruling CPI(M) has failed to address key public concerns and is now relying on “image management and propaganda” to retain power. He argued that such efforts would not resonate with voters who are facing real issues on the ground.
The Congress leader also renewed his attack on what he described as a “covert understanding” between the CPI(M) and the BJP, claiming that both parties have, at various points, acted in ways that indirectly benefit each other politically. He cited policy positions and electoral strategies as indicators of this alleged alignment.
Venugopal further contended that the CPI(M)’s recent decisions, including its candidate selection, have raised doubts even among its own supporters about the party’s political direction. According to him, this has contributed to growing dissatisfaction within the Left’s traditional base.
Highlighting the UDF’s election manifesto, he said it presents a comprehensive vision for Kerala’s future, focusing on development, welfare, and economic revival. He dismissed the CPI(M)’s criticism of the UDF’s promises, particularly on proposed benefits for women using KSRTC services, asserting that the plan is financially viable and backed by structured government support.
Reiterating his confidence, Venugopal said the UDF is poised to win more than 100 seats and form the next government in the state. He added that the electorate is looking for accountable governance and respectful political discourse, signalling a shift away from what he described as the LDF’s confrontational style of leadership.
