
Nagpur, 22 Mar
(HS): Veteran politician from Maharashtra and former MP Datta Meghe passed away
on Sunday following cardiac arrest. He was 89. He was father of MLA Sameer
Meghe and Sagar Meghe.
A prominent
figure in politics Meghe also started a large number of educational
institutions including medical colleges and engineering colleges in Wardha and
Nagpur, service projects for senior citizens and extended help to various
social activities for senior citizens, and destitute. He was elected multiple
times on Lok Sabha and was also a Member of Rajya Sabha from 2002 to 2008. He
was also a member of Maharashtra Legislative Council.
Beyond politics
he was known as generous person who helped many needy persons.
He is survived
by a host of relatives and a large number of associates. Originally a member of
Congress party, he was very close to Sharad Pawar after formation of the
Nationalist Congress Party. Later he joined Bharatiya Janata Party.
