Guwahati, 21 March (HS): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has successfully completed the construction of a Railway Over Bridge (ROB) at Gauripur under the Alipurduar Division, replacing level crossing gate No. CA-26. The project marks a significant step toward strengthening rail-road infrastructure in the region and was completed within the stipulated timeline by NFR (Construction).
According to NFR official sources, the ROB has been constructed between Gauripur and Alamganj stations at km 162/5-6. The structure spans a total length of 940 metres and has been built in accordance with national highway standards. It features a 10.50-metre-wide carriageway with a three-lane configuration, ensuring smooth and efficient vehicular movement. A key highlight of the bridge is its 62-metre-long bow string girder main span, showcasing advanced engineering and modern construction techniques.
The ROB replaces the busy level crossing gate No. CA-26, which had a Train Vehicle Unit (TVU) of 69,840, indicating heavy usage by both rail and road traffic. Strategically located on a state highway connecting key towns such as Gauripur and Dhubri, the site serves as an important link for regional connectivity.
With the commissioning of the ROB, traffic congestion caused by frequent gate closures has been completely eliminated. It ensures uninterrupted and safe movement for vehicles and pedestrians, significantly reducing the risk of accidents. The bridge is also expected to cut travel time, lower fuel consumption, and provide a boost to local trade by improving accessibility and overall economic activity in the region.
NFR reiterated its commitment to modernizing infrastructure and enhancing safety and convenience for both passengers and road users.---------------
