
Guwahati, 20 March (HS): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma filed his nomination papers on Friday amid an overwhelming show of public support, as a massive rally turned Guwahati saffron with lakhs of supporters participated in the procession.
The nomination rally commenced from Khanapara of Guwahati, with an ocean of people accompanying the Chief Minister to the Kamrup District Commissioner’s office. Despite intermittent rainfall, the enthusiasm of the crowd remained undeterred, reflecting strong grassroots support ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
Sarma was joined by his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, son Nandil Bishwa Sharma and Guwahati MP Bijuli Kalita Medhi, who were present during the rally and nomination filing.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister sought blessings from his mother Mrinalini Devi before embarking on the nomination journey. Elaborate arrangements, including preparation of food items in large quantities, were made at Khanapara for the gathering supporters.
Addressing the sentiments of the supporters, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma described Jalukbari not merely as a constituency but as a family, stating that every member of this “family” had come forward to support its leader. She termed the occasion as a moment of joy for both the family and the people of the state.
The Chief Minister, seeking blessings from the people of Assam, said the nomination marks a significant moment as he prepares for the electoral battle with the support and goodwill of the masses.---------
