Guwahati, 19 March (HS): The first randomisation of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units for the Assam Legislative Assembly General Elections 2026 was successfully sconducted across all 126 Assembly Constituencies in 35 districts of the state, official sources in formed on Thursday.

The process was carried out at the offices of the respective District Election Officers (DEOs) in the presence of representatives from recognised national and state political parties, ensuring transparency and adherence to the guidelines of the Election Commission.

The first randomisation of EVMs and VVPATs is a crucial and mandatory step in the electoral process. Through the EVM Management System (EMS), machines are allocated to different Assembly constituencies in a non-predetermined and random manner.

This system-driven process ensures complete fairness, eliminates any possibility of bias or manipulation, and strengthens the integrity of the election process.

The presence of political party representatives during the exercise further reinforces confidence in the transparency and robustness of the electoral mechanism.

The election machinery in Assam remains fully committed to conducting free, fair and transparent elections in accordance with the guidelines and established norms of the Election Commission.------------
