Bhubaneswar, 19 March (H.S.): An assistant teacher posted at a government high school in Chandrasekharpur Phase-2 has been suspended for alleged negligence in duties related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll. The action was taken by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).

According to official sources, the teacher, Rashmi Sahu, had been appointed as a Booth Level Officer (BLO) for Booth No. 109 under Assembly Constituency No. 113. She was entrusted with responsibilities under the SIR exercise, which is crucial for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of voter lists.

However, based on complaints, it was found that she remained absent from duty without valid reason or prior permission and failed to discharge her assigned responsibilities. The lapse has been treated as serious negligence and dereliction of duty.

BMC Commissioner and District Election Officer Chanchal Rana issued the suspension order under Section 32(1) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.

The order further states that during the suspension period, Sahu will not be allowed to leave her headquarters without prior permission and will be entitled to subsistence allowance as per rules.
