Guwahati, 19 March (HS): The Bharatiya Janata Party is set to roll out its Assembly election campaign in Assam from March 24, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declaring that the programme will be driven by the party’s top national and state leadership.

Sarma noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President Nitin Nabin will headline the campaign, marking a high-powered push to connect with voters across the state.

According to the Chief Minister, senior figures including Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State BJP president Dilip Saikia will join a series of rallies and organisational events as the party intensifies its ground mobilisation efforts.

The announcement underscores the BJP’s intent to launch a full-throttle campaign, backed by a strong central leadership presence, as Assam heads toward Assembly elections.

Earlier in the day, the party’s Central Parliamentary Board cleared candidates for 88 of the 89 seats it will contest, with the nominee for Sissiborgaon to be named soon.

Commenting on the candidate list, Sarma said the BJP has ensured balanced representation for youth, women, Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and the Nath community. He added that the feedback from party workers has been positive, with many expressing confidence in the BJP’s prospects.

As part of the NDA seat-sharing arrangement, the BJP has allocated 26 constituencies to its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and 11 seats to Bodoland peoples front (BPF). Sarma said he met AGP leaders earlier in the day and the party is expected to release its list shortly. The Bodoland People’s Front is also set to announce its candidates soon.

The Chief Minister further confirmed that Tankeswar Rabha, Chief Executive Member of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council, will contest in the upcoming elections.----------
