Chennai, 17 March (H.S.):Veteran actor and south Indian superstar Rajinikanth on Tuesday firmly dismissed allegations that he was pressured into staying away from politics, calling the claims “false” and reiterating that his decisions were entirely his own.
The clarification came after TVK leader Aadhav Arjuna alleged that the actor had been threatened by the DMK leadership, forcing him to step back from political entry. The remarks, made during a protest in Chennai on March 12, quickly triggered widespread political debate.
Responding to the controversy, Rajinikanth issued a brief but pointed statement, asserting that the claims were baseless. “Time won’t speak, but it waits and gives its answer,” he said, indicating that the truth would eventually prevail without the need for prolonged arguments.
He also clarified that his earlier decision not to enter active politics was taken independently, guided by personal considerations rather than external pressure. The actor’s response comes amid renewed discussions around his long-anticipated but unrealised political journey.
Rajinikanth expressed gratitude to several leaders across party lines who supported him following the controversy.
The actor’s political stance has long been a subject of speculation. In December 2020, he had announced plans to launch a political party, raising expectations of a significant shift in Tamil Nadu politics. However, he later withdrew, citing health concerns and the risks posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
With his latest remarks, Rajinikanth has sought to firmly put to rest fresh speculation, maintaining that his political choices remain personal and independent.
