New Delhi, 14 March (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will culminate his two-day Assam sojourn today at approximately 10:45 AM by performing Bhoomi Pujan and dedicating an array of transformative projects valued at ₹23,550 crore, cementing North-East India's ascent as an economic powerhouse.
Central to the itinerary, PM Modi will inaugurate the Shillong-Silchar Corridor, a groundbreaking 166-km access-controlled Greenfield four-lane high-speed highway stretching from Mawlyngkhung near Shillong in Meghalaya to Panchgram near Silchar, with a staggering ₹22,860 crore investment under the Hybrid Annuity Model.
This infrastructure marvel—featuring 19 major bridges, 153 minor ones, and multiple underpasses—will compress the Guwahati-Silchar journey from 8.5 hours to roughly five, spurring trade, tourism, and industrial growth across Meghalaya and Assam while linking cement and coal hubs.
Decongestion and Agricultural Empowerment
PM Modi will also bless an Elevated Corridor on NH-306 (Phase-I) from Trunk Road near Capital Point to Rangirkhari Point, poised to unravel traffic snarls on Silchar's vital artery and fortify connectivity to Mizoram, Tripura, and Manipur, thereby catalyzing Barak Valley's economic resurgence. In parallel, he will lay the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art College of Agriculture at Patharkandi in Karimganj district, bolstering research and education ecosystems to empower local youth and neighboring regions with proximate, high-caliber agrarian training.
This Silchar crescendo builds on yesterday's dynamic engagements in Kokrajhar and Guwahati, where PM Modi launched over ₹24,000 crore in initiatives—from Assam Mala 3.0 roads and tea garden land pattas to energy grids and PM-KISAN disbursements—delivering addresses that underscored accelerated development and regional self-reliance.
