Tehran, 01 March (H.S.):

Iran has announced a 40-day period of national mourning and a seven-day public holiday following the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei in airstrikes by the United States and Israel.Iran's state broadcaster IRIB confirmed early Sunday that Khamenei was martyred in the attack.

According to reports from Iran International, the Iranian cabinet swiftly declared the seven-day holiday and 40-day mourning period, while also establishing a three-member Leadership Council, known as the Guiding Council.

Under Iran's constitution, this council will exercise supreme leadership powers temporarily until a new leader is selected, IRNA stated. Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) vowed to launch the most dangerous attack in the history of the Islamic Republic, a claim corroborated by Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency, which indicated the assault could begin within moments.
