
Cooch Behar, 01 March (H.S.): Five workers working in a factory in Dinhata died on the spot on Sunday after being electrocuted by an 11,000 volt high-tension power line. On information, senior police and administrative officials rushed to the scene.
The accident occurred at a stone-cutting factory located in Gader Matha area of Dinhata Village-2 Gram Panchayat under Dinhata police station. As per information, during work, an 11,000 volt power line suddenly fell on the iron part of a mixer machine. As a result, the workers were electrocuted, resulting in the death of five people on the spot.
According to administrative sources, the deceased have been identified as Mukul Burma, Raju Sen, Mitun Pal, Suman, and Sanjay Burman. All of them were residents of Cooch Behar district.
On information, a police force, including the Inspector in-chage of Dinhata police station, arrived at the scene, recovered the bodies and sent them to the local hospital. Dinhata SDPO Prashant Debnath stated that the accident occurred due to electric current flowing through a lift/machine being used in the construction work. Preliminary investigations revealed that three of the deceased were residents of Vetaguri and two of Okrabari.
As news of the accident spread, an atmosphere of grief and anger descended on the area. Relatives of the deceased rushed to the hospital. The administration stated that a detailed investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident and any negligence.
