Imphal, 08 February (HS): Security forces in Manipur have arrested three cadres belonging to different militant outfits during separate intelligence-based operations aimed at curbing extortion and other criminal activities across the state.

According to a statement issued by Manipur Police Headquarters early Sunday, one extortionist of PREPAK (Pro), identified as Sagolsem Joychandra Singh (47) alias Bungcha, was apprehended from Kongba Nandeibam Leikai under Irilbung police station in Imphal East district. A resident of Kakwa Makha Nameirakpam Leikai, Singh was found in possession of a mobile phone, Rs 40 in cash, a wallet and an Aadhaar card.

In another operation on the same day, security personnel arrested a PREPAK rebel, Seram Manimatam Meitei (20) alias Mani, from his residence at Senjam Khunou Mayai Leikai under Sekmai police station in Imphal West district. A mobile phone was seized from his possession.

Meanwhile, in a separate raid, an extortionist cadre of KYKL, identified as Takhelmbam Mohan Singh (31), was arrested from Kakching Lamkhai area under Kakching police station in Kakching district. The accused is a resident of Pallel Maning Leikai, Kakching district. A mobile phone was recovered during the arrest.

Police said intensive search operations and area domination exercises are continuing in vulnerable and border areas of both hill and valley districts. As part of these measures, a total of 114 nakas and checkpoints were set up across Manipur on Saturday, though no additional detentions were reported.

The movement of 303 vehicles carrying essential commodities along National Highway-37 was ensured, with adequate security arrangements in place. Security convoys were provided in sensitive stretches to facilitate safe and uninterrupted movement of vehicles.
