
Mumbai, 06 Feb (HS): Polling for 731 seats under 12 Zilla Parishads, and 1,462
seats under 125 Panchayat Samitis will be held on February 7. Adequate security
measures have been taken by the State Government for the polling. Earlier the
polling was scheduled for February 5, but was rescheduled following death of
DCM Ajit Pawar in a plane crash in Baramati and State Government announcing
state mourning for three days. Counting of votes will be held on February 9.
Out of
the 731 Zilla Parishad seats, 369 are reserved for women, 83 for SC, 25 for ST
and 191 seats in Citizens Backward Class category. A total of 2,624 candidates
have filed nominations for the 731 seats under 12 Zilla Parishads.
For total
1,462 seats under 125 Panchayat Samitis, 731 are reserved for women, 166 for
SC, 38 for ST, and 342 for Citizens Backward Class category. A total of 4,814
candidates have filed nominations.
The
polling will be held at 25,471 polling centres through EVMs. The voters are
expected to cast two votes, one each for Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti.
