New Delhi, 06 February (H.S.): Persistent disruptions orchestrated by Congress and other opposition parties forced the Lok Sabha to adjourn first until noon and subsequently for the entire day on Friday, with proceedings slated to resume only on Monday, February 9, at 11:00 a.m.

The chaos erupted immediately upon the House convening at 11:00 a.m. during Question Hour, as opposition members surged into the Well of the House, brandishing placards and unleashing a barrage of slogan-shouting that derailed all business.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressed profound dismay, noting that the ongoing Budget Session had already squandered 19 hours and 13 minutes to such pandemonium.

Speaker Birla admonished the agitators, emphasizing that Question Hour belongs to every member and that constituents elected parliamentarians for constructive debate, not theatrical displays of posters and chants. He issued a stern warning: Engineered standoffs that erode the House's dignity render its functioning untenable.

Despite Birla's repeated entreaties, the bedlam persisted, prompting an initial adjournment until 12:00 p.m. Post-recess resumption fared no better, with opposition din unabated. Presiding Officer Krishna Prasad Tennethi disclosed that the Speaker had rejected all adjournment motion notices, yet turmoil reigned. In the midst of the melee, Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda and other cabinet colleagues managed to table papers as per the revised business list.

Tennethi implored opposition ranks to channel grievances during the impending Budget debate without impeding progress, underscoring that placards contravene House rules.Relentless obstructions ultimately compelled a full-day adjournment until Monday morning.

The Budget Session's first phase concludes February 13, followed by a recess, with the second phase commencing March 9 and extending through April 2.
