Family seeks justice as CBI clears victim in custodial death case

Chennai, 05 February (H.S.) : The mother of B Ajith Kumar, who tragically died due to alleged custodial torture last year, has demanded the immediate arrest of the woman who filed the initial theft complaint.

This demand comes after a significant development where the Central Bureau of Investigation informed the Madras High Court that the deceased was innocent. B Malathy, the victim's mother, addressed the media expressing that while the legal clearance brings some peace, the pain of her son's loss remains. She insisted that the complainant, identified as Nikitha, must be held accountable for what the family's counsel describes as a pre-planned fabrication intended to extort jewellery.

The case dates back to June 27, 2025, when Nikitha alleged that 80 grams of gold jewellery were missing from her car after requesting B Ajith Kumar, a temple security guard, to park it.

Following the report, B Ajith Kumar was detained at the Thirupuvanam police station where he was reportedly subjected to brutal torture, including being hung from a tree and denied water.

The Central Bureau of Investigation has now prepared an extensive 90-page chargesheet confirming that no theft occurred. Currently, six police personnel are facing legal proceedings. Justice Srimathi of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has directed the central agency to submit a detailed status report by February 17 to further examine the involvement of officials.

The family has also requested the government to provide suitable employment for the surviving son.
