Chennai, 05 February (H.S.) : The Bharatiya Janata Party has strongly condemned Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader and Tamil Nadu Minister MRK Panneerselvam for his alleged derogatory comments targeting North Indians. The minister reportedly referred to people from North India as panipuri sellers and table cleaners, leading to a significant political backlash.
BJP MP Darshan Singh Choudhary termed the statement as shameless and problematic, asserting that such rhetoric attempts to undermine the atmosphere of the region. He emphasized that leaders should refrain from engaging in such divisive practices that target specific communities based on their profession or origin.
Adding to the criticism, BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal stated that every individual, whether a laborer or an entrepreneur, plays a vital role in the national economy. He noted that as the country moves toward the vision of VIKSIT BHARAT 2047, the contributions of all citizens must be respected and accepted.
Even opposition voices joined the condemnation, with Congress leader Udit Raj stating that while South India may lead in certain industrial and educational sectors, such derogatory remarks are indefensible.
The controversy surfaces at a time when Tamil Nadu is preparing for upcoming elections, with political parties currently engaged in manifesto meetings and alliance negotiations.
The BJP leaders have urged for a more inclusive discourse that recognizes the dignity of labor and the diversity of the nation.
