Kolkata, 24 February (H.S.) : Prompt action by the Government Railway Police (GRP) led to the successful recovery of a misplaced bag belonging to a passenger on the 37258 Down Bandel–Howrah Local train on Saturday evening.

According to SRP Indrajit Basu on Monday, Sandip Tudu, a resident of Purba Burdwan district, reported that his bag had been unintentionally exchanged with that of another passenger during the journey on February 22, 2026. Tudu deboarded at Belur railway station, inadvertently leaving his own bag behind while carrying another passenger’s bag from the luggage rack.

The missing bag contained a Samsung tablet, four pen drives, a charger, an identity card and other personal belongings.

Upon receiving the complaint, the on-duty platform team of Belur GRP Police Station, led by Sub-Inspector Nitay Chandra Mallaraj along with Constable Sristi Dhari, immediately initiated a search operation. Acting swiftly, the team traced and recovered Tudu’s bag with all its contents intact.

The bag mistakenly taken by Tudu, which contained clothing items, was also identified and returned to its rightful owner.

After completing the necessary formalities at the police station, the recovered bag and its contents were formally handed over to Sandip Tudu.

Railway police officials said the timely intervention ensured that the passenger’s valuables were restored without loss, underscoring the GRP’s commitment to passenger safety and assistance.
