23 Feb (HS): In Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat district, Khekra police arrested two
cow smugglers in an encounter. One of the accused is a history-sheeter with 23
cases registered against him, while the other is a resident of Meerut district.
On February 20th, in Dundahaeda village, part of the Khekra Kotwali area, cow
smugglers killed three cattle and dumped their remains near Dundahaeda village.
This sparked a protest by cow protection groups and Hindu organizations. Police
arrived at the scene and investigated, and on the night of February 22, Khekra
police arrested two cow smugglers after an encounter. Pistols, cartridges, and
cow slaughter equipment were recovered from the smugglers. These individuals
would inject stray cattle with sedatives, render them unconscious, and then
slaughter them.
One
of the accused arrested by the police is Intezaar, a resident of Panchi village
in Chandi Nagar police station area. 23 cases are registered against him, while
the other accused is Sajid, a resident of Jasad village in Sarurpur police
station area of Meerut district. Several cases are registered against Sajid
under cow slaughter and illegal arms act. The police have taken legal action
against the accused and sent them to jail. Khekra police station in-charge
Prabhakar Kendur says that two accused in the cow slaughter incident have been
arrested after an encounter. Both the accused are notorious criminals. Several
cases of cow slaughter and illegal arms have already been registered against
them.
