Hyderabad, 21 February: With two Rajya Sabha vacancies from Telangana falling due in April, internal discussions within the State Congress have intensified, raising questions over representation, loyalty and political balance.

The terms of K R Suresh Reddy and Abhishek Manu Singhvi are set to conclude, opening two seats at a time when the party is managing both governance and organisational equations in the State. Several leaders, including former MPs V Hanumantha Rao and Madhu Yaskhi Goud, Harakara Venugopal and Government Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, are being discussed in party circles as potential aspirants.

Will the party prioritise long-serving leaders or consider recent entrants who now hold key positions? This question has reportedly triggered debate within Gandhi Bhavan. A section of leaders is said to be advocating preference for those who have remained with the party through difficult phases. Others believe strategic considerations may influence the final choice.

Caste representation has also entered the conversation. With previous commitments made regarding backward class representation, some leaders argue that the nominations could carry broader political implications if social balance is not factored in. Meetings between State leaders and the central leadership have added to speculation over the final decision.

The issue was reportedly discussed during a recent meeting between Telangana leaders and the All India Congress Committee. While there is no official clarity yet, party sources indicate that further consultations are likely.

Will one seat be decided by the central leadership and the other by the State unit? Will loyalty outweigh strategy? With nominations expected soon, the decisions could signal the direction the party intends to take ahead of future political challenges.
