Mayweather Teases Epic Comeback: Retirement Ends After Tyson Exhibition Clash

Los Angeles , 21 February (H.S.): Former world champion boxer Floyd Mayweather announced on Friday his intention to return to professional boxing following an exhibition bout against Mike Tyson. The 48-year-old, who retired undefeated with a 50-0 record in 2017, stated he retains the prowess to shatter new records in the ring.

In a statement, Mayweather asserted that his events—from the impending Tyson matchup to subsequent professional fights—will draw the largest audiences, global broadcasts, and earnings in boxing history. Reports suggest his first professional bout could occur this summer, though the opponent's identity remains undisclosed, with further details expected in coming weeks.

Nicknamed Money, Mayweather once ranked as the world's highest-earning athlete, amassing $300 million in 2015 alone, and dominated the welterweight division for over a decade as the pound-for-pound king. Despite criticisms of his defensive style and allegations of avoiding tough foes, plus jail time for domestic violence cases, his fitness, discipline, and ring IQ earned universal respect. His last pro fight came in 2017 against UFC star Conor McGregor; since then, exhibitions include a 2024 win over John Gotti III in Mexico.

The proposed exhibition against 59-year-old Mike Tyson may unfold on April 25 in Congo, pending official confirmation of date and venue. Tyson, known as Iron Mike, suffered a lopsided loss to YouTuber-turned-pro Jake Paul in Texas in November 2024, viewed live by 70,000 spectators and millions worldwide via broadcast.
