New Delhi, 21 February (H.S.): The Rouse Avenue Sessions Court deferred the hearing on a petition challenging a magistrate's dismissal of a plea seeking FIR against Sonia Gandhi over her alleged inclusion in the 1980 Delhi voter list, scheduling the next date for March 13, 2026.

Special Judge Vishal Gogne postponed Saturday's, February 21, 2026, hearing after counsel for Sonia Gandhi cited personal reasons preventing argument presentation, prompting the court to fix the new date for submissions.

The revision petition, filed by advocate Vikas Tripathi, contests Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Vaibhav Chaurasia's September 11, 2025, order rejecting the original complaint without issuing notices to Gandhi or Delhi Police. On December 9, 2025, Judge Gogne issued notices to Sonia Gandhi and Delhi Police, advancing the matter.

The plea alleges Sonia Gandhi's name appeared in the New Delhi Assembly constituency voter list effective January 1, 1980—three years before her Indian citizenship on April 30, 1983—necessitating forged documents for a cognizable offense under the Representation of the People Act, 1950. Her name was reportedly removed in 1982 and reinstated in 1983 post-citizenship application filed that January, raising questions on the 1980 entry's legitimacy.
