Kolkata, 20 February (H.S.) : Rinku Majumdar, wife of senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former legislator Dilip Ghosh, has formally applied for a party ticket to contest the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.

According to party sources, Majumdar has submitted her biodata to the Bharatiya Janata Party leadership in accordance with the prescribed procedure, expressing her interest in being considered as a candidate.

Reacting to the development, Dilip Ghosh said there was nothing unusual about her application. “She has been a party worker longer than me. I became a Member of Parliament and a legislator. She also aspires to become a legislator,” he said, adding that the decision to grant a ticket rests entirely with the party leadership.

Sources indicate that as the Assembly elections draw closer, several party workers have shown interest in contesting and are submitting their biodata in line with organizational norms. “Thousands of party workers have applied. Anyone can submit an application. The party will decide who will contest and from which constituency,” Ghosh said.

Political observers view the move as a message to the party leadership amid ongoing internal deliberations over candidate selection. Rinku Majumdar has been associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party for over a decade and is currently active in the party’s women’s wing.

Dilip Ghosh was elected as a legislator from the Kharagpur Assembly constituency in 2016 and later won the Medinipur Lok Sabha seat in 2019. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he was fielded from the Bardhaman–Durgapur parliamentary constituency, where he was defeated by the Trinamool Congress candidate.

In recent months, Ghosh has appeared increasingly active in political affairs, fuelling speculation that he himself may be fielded in the 2026 Assembly elections.
