New Delhi, 20 February (H.S.): The Delhi High Court, presided over by Justice Manoj Jain, has granted bail to Ashish, the accused driver implicated in the tragic incident on August 10, 2025, where a speeding white Thar SUV mowed down two pedestrians on a footpath in Chanakyapuri.
The court observed that the accused remains a young individual, and a chargesheet has already been filed in the case, with the trial court scheduled to hear arguments on April 8.It further noted that Ashish has no prior criminal record, rendering continued custody unjustifiable under the circumstances.
Consequently, the court directed his release on a personal bond of ₹25,000.On the morning of Sunday, August 10, 2025, the high-speed Thar struck two pedestrians walking on the footpath, dragging them for some distance due to its excessive velocity; the impact was so severe that the vehicle's front wheel subsequently detached.Ashish was apprehended at the scene immediately following the accident.
During interrogation, he informed police that drowsiness had overcome him, precipitating the mishap. One pedestrian succumbed at the spot, while police recovered liquor bottles from the Thar. A resident of East Delhi, Ashish was returning home from Dhaula Kuan that day; notably, the vehicle belonged not to him but to his friend Ankit from Ghaziabad.
