New Delhi, 19 February (H.S.): Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled the New Delhi Frontier AI Impact Commitments on Thursday,at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in Bharat Mandapam, a voluntary framework endorsed by global tech giants and Indian innovators to render AI inclusive, development-focused, and globally relevant.

Vaishnaw highlighted two core objectives: first, harnessing anonymized, aggregated usage data insights to inform evidence-based policies on jobs, skills, and economic transformation while upholding user privacy; second, fortifying AI systems through multilingual and culturally robust evaluations, collaborating on benchmarks for underrepresented languages and contexts—tailored especially for the Global South.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared the commitments alongside Google CEO Sundar Pichai, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Meta Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, and other luminaries, marking collaborative momentum.

Vision for Responsible Innovation

Vaishnaw termed the pledges the summit's hallmark success, reflecting India's AI governance vision as a global guidepost. Unveiled on Wednesday amid working group deliberations, they integrate seven thematic cycles—human capital, social empowerment, safe AI, innovation efficiency, science, resource democratization, and economic-social welfare—fusing government, industry, academia, and civil society expertise into actionable roadmaps.

'Cautious Optimism' Approach

IT Secretary S. Krishnan articulated India's cautious optimism stance: vigilant on risks and regulations, prioritizing global standards to craft inclusive governance amplifying Global South voices.
