Guwahati, 17 February (HS): An MLA of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Ashraful Hussain, on Tuesday sought a response in the Assam Assembly over alleged discrepancies in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) 2024 results.
Raising the issue through a notice during Zero Hour on the second day of the four-day Budget Session, Hussain questioned the irregularities in the declaration of the CCE 2024 final results and sought clarification from the government.
Replying on behalf of the government, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary stated that as per the vacancy list received from the Assam government, the advertisement published by APSC for the Combined Competitive Examination 2024 had reserved two posts in the Assam Civil Service for the Moran and Matak communities. He further informed that additional posts were reserved for Other Backward Classes in the Assam Police Service.
Referring to Office Memorandum No. ABP 110/2023/2 dated October 19, 2023, the minister said that for the next five years, one post each in the ACS (Junior Branch) and APS (Junior Branch) has been reserved for the Moran and Matak communities. Accordingly, APSC had been informed in advance.
However, in the final results declared for CCE 2024, only two candidates from the Matak community were considered against reserved posts on merit, while no candidate from the Moran community was accommodated as per the reservation guidelines. Following complaints from the Moran Students’ Union and members of the Moran community, the government immediately contacted APSC.
Patowary informed the House that the Commission, after reviewing the matter in light of the government’s directive, cancelled the final results declared on February 16 with the objective of providing due opportunity to candidates from the Moran community against the reserved posts.
He assured that the government would take appropriate measures to ensure transparency in the recruitment process conducted by APSC.----------
