Hyderabad, 16 February (HS): The Bharatiya Janata Party won Narayanpet municipality while the Bharat Rashtra Samithi secured three municipalities and the Congress claimed two hung civic bodies through ex officio votes in Telangana on Monday.

BJP candidate Konda Shweta was elected Chairperson of Narayanpet Municipality with the ex officio vote of Mahabubnagar MP DK Aruna. The municipality has 24 wards in which the BJP won 11 seats, Congress seven, while the Bharat Rashtra Samithi and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen secured two and one seats respectively. One Independent candidate later joined the BJP.

Earlier, the BJP won Karimnagar Municipal Corporation with 34 votes. Kolagani Srinivas was elected Mayor and Y. Sunil Rao Deputy Mayor, with Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar casting the ex officio vote.

In the Patancheru Assembly constituency, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi won three municipalities. Pavani Kumar Goud was elected Chairperson of Gummadidala Municipality and Sandhya Goverdhan Reddy Vice-Chairperson. In Jinnaram Municipality, Janardhan became Chairman and Pratap Reddy Vice-Chairman. In Gaddapotharam Municipality, G. Sushma was elected Chairperson and Mahendar Goud Vice-Chairperson. In Bhainsa Municipality, Independent candidates Tumolla Dattatri and Bibi Kutija Siddiqui were elected Chairman and Vice-Chairman respectively.

Through ex officio votes, the Congress won Wardhannapet and Kesamudram, earlier declared hung municipalities. In Wardhannapet, MLA K.R. Nagaraj cast the deciding vote in favour of the Congress after a tie in ward strength. In Kesamudram, Mahabubabad MP P. Balram Naik cast the ex officio vote for the party after both Congress and BRS secured eight seats each.

Meanwhile, District Collectors postponed the election of Chairman and Vice-Chairman posts in 11 municipalities — Yellandu, Sultanabad, Ibrahimpatnam, Kagaznagar, Ketanapally, Khanapur, Zaheerabad, Inderesham, Dornakal, Jangaon and Thorrur — to February 17.
