Bhubaneswar, 16 February (H.S.): Former BJD MLA Raseswari Panigrahi is critically ill and undergoing treatment at her residence in the Shanti Nagar locality of Sambalpur district. According to sources, her condition remains serious due to neurological complications. Her health reportedly deteriorated since Sunday evening and she is currently unable to speak.

Panigrahi represented the Sambalpur Assembly constituency in the 2014 Odisha Legislative Assembly as a member of the Biju Janata Dal. She is presently receiving medical care at home under supervision.

Before entering politics, she had a distinguished career in the medical field. She completed her MBBS from Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research and joined government service in 1972 as a gynaecology specialist, beginning her professional career at the District Headquarters Hospital in Sundargarh.

Later, she served as a professor at a medical college and continued contributing to healthcare until her retirement. Panigrahi received her early education at Ispat Vidyalaya in Rourkela and pursued higher studies at Gangadhar Meher College in Sambalpur, where she developed her aspiration to become a doctor at a young age.
