Chennai, 16 February (H.S.) : Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nainar Nagendran has issued a formal apology following a significant controversy triggered by his recent comments regarding actress Trisha Krishnan and actor-politician Vijay.

The issue escalated after the actress publicly called out the BJP leader for his remarks made during a political event, leading to widespread criticism across social media platforms and the film industry.

The controversy began when Nagendran, while addressing a gathering, made certain observations about the involvement of cinema personalities in politics, specifically naming Trisha and Vijay. Actress Trisha took to her social media account to express her strong disapproval, questioning the nature of such personal attacks.

Following the backlash, the Tamil Nadu BJP chief clarified that his intention was not to disrespect or demean any individual personally. He stated that in the heat of political discourse, certain references might have been misunderstood.

In an official statement, Nainar Nagendran expressed his regrets, noting that if his words had caused any pain or emotional distress to the actors or their followers, he sincerely apologized for the same.

Authorities within the party mentioned that the leadership believes in maintaining a dignified political narrative. Observers suggest that the apology was a strategic move to prevent further alienation of the influential cinema-going demographic in the state.
