North Dinajpur, 15 February (H.S.): Chaos erupted on the very first day of the launch of the state government's new YuvaSathi scheme in Chopra in North Dinajpur district. A minor dispute between young men standing in a long queue of applicants seeking unemployment benefits suddenly escalated into a physical altercation, creating chaos in the area.

The situation at Chopra BDO office premises became tense on Sunday afternoon when an argument broke out between two young men in the queue, which escalated into a scuffle. Two young men were injured in the incident. As news of the scuffle spread, several young men and women in the queue left the line in fear and returned home.

On information, the police arrived at the scene. They attempted to remove the men involved in the fight, but this escalated the situation for a short while. The commotion forced a temporary halt to the process of collecting forms and registering names under the YuvaSathi scheme.

However, prompt action by the police and block administration brought the situation under control. The registration process later resumed, but the crowd appeared much smaller than before.

Chopra BDO Saurabh Majhi clarified that the incident had no direct connection to the YuvaSathi scheme registrations. He said it was a dispute between two individuals that was being blown out of proportion.

Islampur Additional Superintendent of Police Dendup Sherpa stated that no one had filed a written complaint regarding the assault. He said, It was a minor altercation. The situation returned to normal as soon as the police arrived.

The administration is on high alert following the incident and extra monitoring is being done to ensure smooth registration processes under the YuvaSathi scheme.
