15 Feb (HS): A 45-year-old mother was killed and her two boys were injured when

a wild elephant attacked them on the Mihipurwa-Lakhimpur Road in the

Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary, police reported on Sunday. Prakash Chandra

Sharma, SHO of Sujauli Police Station, identified the dead as Munni Devi of

Paras Purwa village in Lakhimpur Kheri district. He stated that Munni Devi

arrived in Mihipurwa town on Saturday on a motorbike with her two sons, Karan

Nishad and Arjun Nishad, ages 18 and 15, for treatment. While they were riding

home, a wild elephant came on the road near the Mote Baba shrine and rushed at

the motorcycle.

According

to the villagers, the elephant stomped the woman after the bike crashed. When

bystanders shouted an alarm, the elephant fled into the forest. A government

ambulance sent the woman and both of her boys to a hospital in Lakhimpur Kheri

district, near the location of the event. When the doctor arrived, he

proclaimed Munni Devi dead. The SHO stated that Karan and Arjun are getting

treatment. The incident occurred in Bahraich, which is next to Lakhimpur

district's forest regions. According to Forest Range Officer Surendra

Srivastava, the event occurred in the Nishan Garha Forest Range in

Katarniaghat.
