Hooghly, 14 February (H.S.): A clash broke out between Bharatiya Janata Party and Trinamool Congress workers in Late Friday night in Sheorafully area of Hooghly district, leaving two people from both sides seriously injured. The injured, Abhijit Karmakar (BJP worker) and Surjeet Samanta (Trinamool worker), were admitted to Serampore Walsh Hospital in critical condition.

The incident has sparked a blame game between the BJP and Trinamool Congress.

Local BJP leaders stated that on Friday night, BJP workers were on their way to discuss pollution from a chemical factory in the area. Allegedly, during this time, BJP workers were brutally attacked in the Radhagovind Palli area by a group led by Haridas Pal, councillor of Ward No. 20 of Baidyabati Municipality. Following the incident, the injured were taken to the hospital with the help of local BJP workers. A police complaint has been lodged. The police are investigating the matter.

In protest of the incident, local BJP leaders and workers staged a demonstration in front of the Sheorafully police outpost. Tension prevails in the area due to the incident.

However, reacting to the matter, the accused councillor Haridas Pal instead accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of creating unrest in the area. He told Hindusthan Samachar that last night BJP workers were putting up BJP posters on the walls with Trinamool Congress writing on them. At that time, a dispute broke out between the two sides. A Trinamool Congress worker named Surjeet Samant was injured in this incident. He has been admitted to Serampore Walsh Hospital in critical condition. The councillor said that he had intervened. Both people were injured in the scuffle.
