Newborn Kidnapped From Tiruchy Government Hospital Rescued Within Hours

Chennai, 14 February (H.S.) : In a swift and commendable operation, the Tiruchy police successfully rescued a newborn baby within five hours of being kidnapped from the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) on Tuesday. The incident, which caused a temporary wave of panic at the medical facility, ended in relief as authorities apprehended the suspect and reunited the infant with his family.

According to hospital sources, the child was born to Sukanya and Vignesh, residents of Thuraiyur, on February 11. During their stay, a woman identified as Meenakshi befriended the family, posing as a helpful bystander. On Tuesday morning, while Sukanya’s relatives were temporarily away from the ward, Meenakshi allegedly took the baby under the pretext of taking him for mandatory vaccinations. When she failed to return after a considerable amount of time, the frantic parents alerted the hospital administration and the police.

Taking immediate cognizance of the matter, the police analyzed CCTV footage, which showed the suspect leaving the hospital premises with the infant. Special teams were formed under the direction of senior officials to track her movements. Following a tip-off, the police intercepted Meenakshi in the Dharmampatti area. The newborn was found safe and was immediately brought back to the hospital for a medical checkup before being handed over to his parents.

The police have officially arrested Meenakshi and are conducting further investigations into her motives. Preliminary reports suggest she acted out of a personal desire for a child. Following the breach, the MGMGH administration has vowed to tighten security protocols and increase surveillance in maternity wards to prevent such occurrences in the future.

The rapid response of the Tiruchy police has earned widespread appreciation from the public.
