Chennai, 14 February (H.S.) : Legendary Malayalam actor Mammootty has reportedly won hearts across the film industry by opting for a significant pay cut for his role in Dhanush’s upcoming 55th film, tentatively titled D55. Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy of Amaran fame, the film is being mounted on a grand scale, but Mammootty’s recent gesture has become the primary talking point in Kollywood.
According to reports, the producers initially offered the megastar a staggering remuneration of Rs 35 crore to join the star-studded cast. However, Mammootty reportedly declined the massive amount, expressing that he was uncomfortable accepting such an astronomical fee. After further discussions, his salary was revised and fixed at Rs 24 crore. This decision has earned him widespread praise from fans and industry peers alike for his professional integrity and commitment to the project's feasibility.
D55 is already generating immense hype as one of the most expensive and anticipated Tamil films in production. The movie features a high-profile ensemble, including Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela as the female leads. Reportedly, Sai Pallavi is being paid Rs 12 crore for her role, while Sreeleela, who has a more limited screen presence, is receiving Rs 3 crore. Dhanush, who is also producing the film under his Wunderbar Films banner, is said to be drawing a salary of Rs 45 crore.
The film marks a significant collaboration between Mammootty and Dhanush after a long hiatus. Directed by Periasamy, whose recent success has made him one of the most sought-after filmmakers, D55 is expected to be a high-octane thriller. With the technical crew including music composer Sai Abhyankkar, the film continues to draw attention for both its scale and the gracious stand taken by its legendary supporting lead.
