Hyderabad, 13 February (HS): The ruling Congress party is leading in the Telangana Municipal Polls-2026, while the main opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is in second position.

Out of 2,682 wards whose results were declared, Congress candidates won 1,411 wards and BRS secured 725 wards, according to Telangana State Election Commission data available till 4.54 p.m. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 263 wards, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) 48 wards and CPI(M) 11 wards.

People began learning the names of newly elected councillors from around 10.00 a.m. on Friday, February 11, about two hours after counting commenced at 8.00 a.m. Officials issued certificates to the winning candidates and party leaders announced names of successful candidates in wards.

The elected councillors and corporators will take oath at 11.30 a.m. on February 16. A special meeting will follow to elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of corporations and the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of municipalities.

Counting began with postal ballots followed by regular ballots. In each round, 1,000 ballots were randomly taken and sent to each counting table.

Of 52,17,413 eligible voters, 38,09,406 exercised their franchise in the elections held on Wednesday, February 11, recording a turnout of 73.01 percent. The polls were conducted in 2,569 wards across 116 municipalities and 412 wards in seven municipal corporations.
