Kokrajhar (Assam), 13 February (HS): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma participated in the historic Kherai Puja celebrations at Gossaigaon near the India-Bhutan and West Bengal border and announced a grant of ₹50 crore for the development of the Dularai Gudi Bathou Sankosh Kherai complex.

The four-day grand event, which began on February 11 at Chaudhary Ghat on the banks of the Sankosh River, witnessed a festive atmosphere on its third day. The central Kherai Puja flag was ceremonially hoisted, while committees from 42 districts unfurled the flags of Dularai Gudi Bathou Afad.

Office-bearers of district committees from Assam, West Bengal, Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh were present on the occasion. Following the offering of tributes, an open सभा was held in which Cabinet Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma, MLA Raviram Narzary, BTC executive members and other dignitaries took part.

During the programme, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of the Kherai Bathou Temple at the Sankosh riverbank and formally announced the Rs 50 crore financial assistance for the construction of the Dularai Gudi Bathou Sankosh Kherai complex. He said he felt blessed to be able to perform Sankosh Kherai Puja.

Organising committee president and MLA Raviram Narzary termed the Chief Minister’s presence a matter of pride for the Bodo community, stating that it further enhanced the significance of the sacred Bathou Puja.-----------
