
Kolkata, 13 February (H.S.): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday congratulated Tarique Rahman following the decisive victory of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Bangladesh’s general elections.
Polling in Bangladesh was held on Thursday, with the results becoming clear on Friday morning.
In a message posted on her official X handle, Banerjee also extended her greetings to the people of Bangladesh for conducting peaceful elections. She conveyed her best wishes to the citizens and offered advance greetings for the upcoming month of Ramadan.
In her message, the Chief Minister congratulated Rahman, his party, and all associated leaders on what she described as a historic victory. She expressed hope that India and Bangladesh would continue to maintain cordial and friendly relations in the years ahead.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Rahman and the BNP leadership on their electoral success. In his message, Modi said the results reflected the trust of the people of Bangladesh and reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting a democratic, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh. He added that India looks forward to working together to further strengthen the multifaceted ties between the two neighbouring countries.
