New Delhi, 12 February (H.S.): Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will undertake a state visit to India from February 18 to 22 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as announced by Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during his weekly briefing on Thursday.

President Lula will participate in the second AI Impact Summit in New Delhi from February 19 to 20, alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, underscoring shared priorities in artificial intelligence and digital innovation.

On February 21, Lula will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi to comprehensively review ties, followed by a luncheon hosted by the Prime Minister; President Droupadi Murmu will host him for a state banquet, with meetings alongside Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, and other dignitaries.

Discussions will span bilateral relations, multilateral cooperation, reformed global governance, and issues concerning the Global South, with Lula accompanied by around 14 ministers and top CEOs for targeted ministerial meetings and a business forum to boost trade and investment.

This sixth visit by Lula—his first as chief guest for Republic Day in 2004, last for G20 in 2023—builds on Modi's landmark Brasilia trip in July 2025 (first Indian PM visit in 57 years) and their Johannesburg G20 meeting in November 2025, fortifying the strategic partnership across trade, defense, energy, and beyond.
