Kolkata, 11 February (H.S.):
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dilip Ghosh on Wednesday alleged that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is attempting to obstruct the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal.
Speaking to reporters in New Town, Ghosh claimed that the state government and the ruling party do not want the SIR process to move forward. “All those involved in conducting the SIR are government employees. If they do not receive cooperation, how will the process be completed? On the other hand, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is approaching the courts to protect herself,” he said.
Ghosh further alleged that the TMC does not want a transparent and impartial revision of the voter list.
It may be noted that the final electoral roll under the SIR process in West Bengal is scheduled to be published on February 28. The Election Commission on Tuesday issued a revised schedule in this regard.
Following a meeting at Nirvachan Sadan in New Delhi, Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal Manoj Kumar Agarwal released a fresh notification. As per the Commission’s directives, the Special Intensive Revision will be completed within the stipulated timeline.
Political rhetoric over the SIR has intensified in the state, with the process being viewed in the context of the upcoming elections.
