Kolkata, 11 February (H.S.): The political firestorm surrounding an alleged private chat controversy involving a Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP in West Bengal has intensified. BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya on Wednesday posted on the social media platform X and raised serious questions about the state police's actions.

According to the BJP, West Bengal Police has written to X requesting the removal of content that shared private and objectionable chats between a TMC MP and an alleged close associate. Malviya claimed that the subject line of the police letter reads “Non-consensual sharing of private intimate chats of a sitting Member of Parliament.”

The BJP alleged that this wording suggests the chats are genuine rather than fake. The party has questioned why, if the chats are genuine, an FIR was filed against social media users claiming the content was fabricated.

Malviya also claimed that the petitioners have documentary evidence proving the authenticity of the chats and that the latest police letter strengthens their case. He demanded that the Krishnanagar police clarify whether the action was taken independently or under political pressure. He also called for the concerned MP and the acting Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal to respond to the court.

The BJP alleged that if state machinery was misused to protect political interests and target citizens, accountability must be fixed.

There has been no official response from the Trinamool Congress or the MP concerned. The matter now appears to be gaining momentum at both the legal and political levels.
