Howrah, 11 February (H.S.) :
Police in Howrah on Wednesday recovered the body of an elderly woman from her flat in Tikiapara. She was taken to Howrah District Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
According to local sources, the deceased has been identified as Sumita Dey, around 60 years old. She lived alone in a flat on Belilias Road in Tikiapara. Neighbours discovered her lying unconscious on the bed around 12:30 PM. After repeated calls went unanswered, they informed the Tikiapara police outpost.
Police arrived at the scene within minutes and shifted her to Howrah District Hospital. Doctors confirmed that she had already passed away before being brought to the hospital.
Sources said Sumita’s husband, who was a lawyer practicing at Howrah Court, had passed away about three years ago, and she had been living alone since then. Preliminary investigations revealed no visible signs of injury on the body.
However, the Howrah police have registered a case of unnatural death. Authorities are investigating to determine whether any suspicious circumstances were involved.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are expected to release further updates after completing initial inquiries.
