Chennai, 11 February (H.S.) : The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporations (TNSTC) have announced the operation of over one thousand special buses to accommodate the anticipated rush of passengers during the upcoming Mahashivaratri festival and weekend holidays.

According to the Managing Director of the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC), these additional services will run between February 12 and February 15 to ensure smooth travel across the state.

The transport department has strategically planned these services from major hubs in Chennai, including the Kilambakkam and Koyambedu bus terminuses, to various key destinations to manage the heavy passenger volume effectively.

As per the official schedule, 125 special buses will be deployed on February 12, followed by a significant increase to 500 buses on February 13 and 505 buses on February 14. From the Kilambakkam terminus, buses will head toward major cities such as Madurai, Tiruchi, Coimbatore, Salem, and Tirunelveli.

Meanwhile, the Koyambedu terminus will facilitate travel to Tiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, and Bengaluru. Additionally, special operations are planned from Madhavaram and other cities like Erode and Tiruppur to cater to regional demand.

Authorities have stated that these special arrangements are aimed at preventing congestion and ensuring that devotees and travelers reach their destinations without inconvenience.

To facilitate the return journey on Sunday, the department will also operate special services from various districts back to Chennai and Bengaluru based on real time demand.

Passengers are encouraged to utilize these services and plan their travel in advance to avoid last minute delays during the busy festive weekend.
