
Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, Canada,11 February (H.S.): A devastating mass shooting unfolded at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia on Tuesday, leaving eight people dead—including the suspected gunman—along with two additional bodies discovered at a nearby residence believed to be connected to the incident, as confirmed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
Authorities received reports of gunfire at the school around 1:20 p.m. local time. Upon arrival, officers discovered six victims and the suspected shooter deceased inside the premises, with the gunman having apparently taken his own life.
More than 25 individuals were injured in the attack, including two with life-threatening injuries who were airlifted to hospitals; tragically, one succumbed en route to medical care.
During the ongoing investigation, police identified a nearby house linked to the incident, where two more bodies were found, elevating the total fatalities to 10. Authorities are probing whether any additional suspects were involved.
Tumbler Ridge, a remote community of roughly 2,400 residents nestled in northeastern British Columbia, was placed under a strict shelter-in-place order as reinforcements from surrounding areas bolstered the local response.
The Peace River South School District announced the full closure of both Tumbler Ridge Secondary School—home to approximately 175 students in grades 7 through 12—and the adjacent Tumbler Ridge Elementary School.
Peace River South MLA Larry Neufeld confirmed the deployment of extra police and ambulance teams but withheld further details citing operational security, urging anxious family members searching for loved ones to return home and allow first responders to work unimpeded.
